Angela Missoni celebrated her 20th year as the Creative Director of the historic fashion house in perfect party fashion. Just a year shy of the brand’s 65th birthday, Missoni hosted a relaxed dinner that carried late into the evening. Backstage, Missoni revealed that the pieces in her collection are suited for just such occasions.

“It’s an important point for a designer, twenty years,” Missoni said before the show. “I said, okay, I’m going to do a nice party. So those kids are the kids I would like to have at my party.”

Missoni combined women’s and men’s collections on the runway, a policy the brand will continue in future shows. The collection was perfectly suited for a music festival or late night escapades in Ibiza. The pieces combined pastels, psychedelic prints, fluid slips and the trademark Missoni print. The night was an airy alternative to a stuffy retrospective on the brand's history. Missoni will, no doubt, host a look back at the house founded by her parents next year, but for now, a celebratory dinner will do.

The high-end brand was founded in 1953 by Rosita and Ottavio Missoni, and sprung out of a small knitwear shop. After decades of growth and recognition, Rosita stepped down, allowing her daughter to succeed her in 1998. Angela Missoni reinvigorated the house, bringing Missoni back into the zeitgeist. While much time has passed, the classic zig-zags are still evocative of the brand's origins as a small knitwear company from Gallarate, Italy.
