Anna Of The North Drops “Someone Special”

“You are someone special.”

Sweet, slow, and significant, Anna of the North’s new track “Someone Special” arrives at a precarious moment. Much of the new music released this year has tackled the fallout of the pandemic, politics, and general uneasiness of current times. This has resulted in many an angry or downtrodden tune. “Someone Special” flies in the face of this movement, taking a decidedly optimistic stance, despite it’s wistful ballad form.

“Someone special was written when the corona pandemic shut down borders,” explained Anna. “I had just been touring for a month in the US and was gonna stay to write some new music for my next record. ‘Someone Special’ was the only song I managed to write before I had to leave the country, so the song is inspired by that feeling of uncertainty. Of not knowing. During times like these we really get the feeling of how fragile we are. In the big picture we might feel insignificant, but you are always special to someone.”

The track is the first taste of the Norwegian songstress’ new EP “Believe,” coming Oct. 23. It features five songs, all with a similar tone and mood to “Someone Special.”

“This Ep and songs are very personal and inspired by the time we’re in right now,” said Anna. “‘Lover Ghost’ was my jam when I moved to Australia all by myself and ‘Believe’ is my forever encore. Me and my fans have been dancing to that song after every show. This whole thing is kind of a throwback journey and a tribute to my fans.”

To record the EP, Anna decided to go old school. The songs are recorded at her home with her dad playing the piano, similar to how she made music before her career took her on the road. “Believe” is a collection of songs to cry over the past to, but also to inspire hope for the future. Which is perfect, because they meet us where we’re at.
