Strutting at Manhattan’s iconic Strand bookstore is something only Anna Sui could pull off.
With her newest Fall/Winter 2024 collection, the designer pulled inspiration from the beloved Whodunnit! stories of the past. These captivating mystery novels by Agatha Christie came to life on the runway as models were surrounded by the rarest novels that the bookstore houses. Miss Marple’s classic style from the Agatha Christie novels was adapted from page to runway with classic British details and her iconic Gladstone bag was reimagined.
The start of the collection is marked by warm orange and brown hues that evoke images of the perfect fall day. Tweed, plaid, check, and argyle would make the preppiest Londoners jealous, while the vintage workwear silhouettes that are ever present are fit for only the chicest bookworms. Cool colors move in as looks suddenly become covered in shades of blue, black, and cream. The workday is finished as mini dresses and bohemian styles bring a playful edge. Velvet, lace, mesh, and crochet knit create a surprising twist to classic Anna Sui designs.
The collection finally goes from day to night with evening wear looks inspired by nightclubs of the 1930s. The designs dazzle as metallic fabric and countless sequins add eye-catching elements. The collection may evolve but the great equalizer, Argyle socks, made their way into almost every look.
Vintage-inspired designs have always been a core tenet of the Anna Sui brand, but now she is taking it a step further. In collaboration with Eveliina Vintage, the two have introduced Anna’s Vintage Closet which will supply the signature lingerie from Eveliina Vintage and Sui’s personal vintage archive.
Anna Sui’s guests were no mystery as friendly faces lined the runway. Guests included Marc Jacobs, Sofia Coppola, Debbie Harry, and more.
