Designer Anthony Vaccarello takes Paris’ Eiffel Tower landing by storm with his sleek, nearly all-black everything FW18 Saint Laurent collection. Combining both his women’s and men’s collections this season, the electric show took place in a pulsing futuristic light box set to a dramatic building soundtrack, creating a perfect combination of fashion and stimulation.

The first grouping of looks included highly cropped leather shorts serving legs for days, deep-cut neck lines, and stylish oversized brimmed fedoras and flaired skull-caps. As the collection evolved, Vaccarello took an ‘80s turn with wide structural shoulder-padded, above-the-knee cocktail dresses. Mid-show, a tailored parade of dark toned men’s jackets and suits came filing down the runway, pairing perfectly to the previously seen ensembles. Closing the show out strong, Vaccarello finally revealed a pop of color with a series of shimmering floral dresses, each owning a unique print and construction.

This Saint Laurent show is a poised portrait of the current voice Anthony Vaccarello is gifting the fashion house and industry at large. His designs are beloved by and built for a youthful crowd, a connection that makes Vaccarello (and YSL) a frontrunner in a business run by his seasoned but undeniably older peers.
