Saint Laurent’s newest menswear collection is timeless as always — but makes a bold winter fashion statement with a slew of oversized eclectic jackets in both leather and feathers.

In creative director Anthony Vaccerello’s time at the helm of the French fashion house, he has grown a consistent pattern of always having signature silhouettes with cutting-edge styling in any given collection. Vaccerello’s menswear presentation in Paris was yet another continuation of Saint Laurent’s quintessential elegance.

Being that Saint Laurent was founded by two men with distinctly different personalities, the counterinituive nature of the collection calls back to the brand’s heritage. The spirit of Robert Mapplethrope, the late American photographer known for his iconic black-and-white portraits, is additionally brought to life in pieces throughout the collection.

The most novel nature of the Saint Laurent collection is the intense feathered coat. They bring a more haute couture maximalism to the collection unlike other past Saint Laurent collectionss while maintaining the typical elegance of the brand. Other looks with double-breasted coats layered over full suits mirror the dramatic energy of the feathered ensembles.

Though minimalist lines continue throughout the collection, the shocking statement coats are a reflection on the venue where Saint Laurent once presented its haute couture collections — Vaccerello was inspired by the Intercontinental Hotel’s ballroom that had hanging crystal chandeliers and ornate parquet flooring.
