Antoni Porowski x OMEGA: When Watches Represent Self
To Antoni, OMEGA has become an identity symbol
Antoni Porowski is humble and patient. He smiles, listens, and solves problems without any judgments. His appearance on the Netflix show Queer Eye has made him a well-known TV personality. Brunette hair, gentle eyes, in the recent brand shooting for OMEGA, Antoni looks amiable. The Seamaster Aqua Terra on his wrist, glamorous in an unpretentious way, not only echoes Antoni’s unique aura, but also builds up a taste of classic luxury.
To Antoni, OMEGA is an integral part of his childhood memories. From ages 5 to 12, at the time when swim practices were his routine, he could never forget the red Omega symbol on the chronometer hanging on the wall of the pool. In the little boy’s eyes, the OMEGA told him when to start, how many seconds he had break in between sets, and signified his results. It represented precision, time management, and achievement.
Antoni and OMEGA, like Frank Sinatra’s music and laid-back road trips in chill summers, are tied closely- the connection, inseparable, is always present. No matter if it’s Micheal Phelps’s Butterfly, or James Bond’s flawed character, OMEGA’s characters are deeply planted in his heart. When he started working as a gallery director in New York City, that first Christmas, he was gifted a 1950 Omega Constellation with the original parts – the first OMEGA watch he ever owned. It was gold with a black dial, original hands and gold observatory on the back case. He paired it with a vintage black cordovan leather strap.
Anthony’s first OMEGA watch is an all-time favorite, but recently, he has been drawn to the Speedmaster. It is his go-to everyday watch that is sporty enough for working out but nice enough to wear to an event. It looks best, though, with jeans, a white t-shirt, and old Stan Smith Adidas shoes.
An old friend of OMEGA, he also loves the introduction of Nato Straps, which have the option to customize. When they were filming Queer Eye in Philadelphia, he wore a great colorful Nato Strap sent by Gent in every episode we filmed. It was a low-key but proud symbol of the LGBTQIA+ community, and the OMEGA Constellation watch that he wore every single day of filming and the crew were his internal support.
“The watch itself is a symbol of the past, how my life has changed, and the Omega symbol a reminder of my childhood. That day I was stressed and terrified. I had no idea what I was doing but relied on the support of my castmates because we were all in it together,” he said.
