In the heart of Brera, the vibrant Italian neighborhood where Giorgio Armani lived, an exhibition celebrating the fashion giant’s stylistic journey will open on September 24. More than 120 creations centering Armani’s history line the Pinacoteca di Brera, a public gallery home to masterpieces by Caravaggio, Tintoretto, and Giovanni Bellini. The legendary fashion designer, who passed on September 4, personally worked on the exhibition titled “Giorgio Armani: Milano, Per Amore.”

“Fashion as decorative art is welcomed at Brera. It will be a singular event: a dialogue between Giorgio Armani, the museum and its artistic heritage, conveyed through a selection of his creations,” Chiara Rostagno, Deputy Director of the Pinacoteca di Brera, said in a statement.

The garments appear in conversation with the gallery’s permanent collection. Exceptional tailoring and precise detailing unify the pieces on display. The exhibition also serves an educational purpose, capturing a shifting aesthetic and cultural landscape in a body of work spanning 50 years long. The selections were pulled from ARMANI/Archivio, a dynamic archive built to preserve the legacy of the brand. Giorgio Armani’s personal connection to Brera underscores the collaboration.

“Giorgio Armani represents one of the highest pinnacles of Italian creativity, expressed in the essentiality and rigour of form, a rigour that evolved from aesthetic to in the sense that it permeated his way of living and working,” Angelo Crespi, Director of the Pinacoteca di Brera, said in a statement. “In this, Giorgio Armani embodies the character of Milan most fully. He is also the most emblematic expression of the culture of Brera, a unique place in the world where art, research and innovation have been practised for five hundred years.”
The exhibition will remain open until January 11, 2026.
