When breaking down the past year in music, one will easily and quickly discover that the majority of the buzz and coveted spots on the charts belonged to women. One of those women whose had a seemingly unmatched year compared to any of her peers from any genre has officially been announced as Billboard's 2018 Woman of the Year: Ariana Grande. On December 6, Billboard will host the 13th annual Women In Music dinner and gala in New York City, where Ariana will be honored and join the ranks of previous winners including Lady Gaga, Madonna, Selena Gomez, and Taylor Swift.

Billboard's VP of content Ross Scarano says, "Ariana Grande is a star on her own terms, never bending to any particular musical trend or path in the industry. Certain in her convictions, she consistently stands up for herself and her decisions in a world that often isn’t hospitable to that sort of strength in young women. She’s got guts, she’s making some of the best music of her career, and she’s absolutely deserving of Woman of the Year."

With her album Sweetener gaining the largest streaming week of all time for a pop album upon its release, Grande went from superstar status to a bona fide icon ushering in powerhouse hits like "God Is a Woman", "No Tears Left to Cry", and "Breathin", to add to her three No. 1 stints on the Billboard 2oo albums chart.

An avid advocate for mental health awareness, gender equality, the LGBTQ community, and people of color, Grande's fan base and reach is a hopeful testament of the voice she carries and the endless amount of love she shares with her craft. Congratulations, Ariana! V love you!
