“Artist Meets Artisan” Lands at Cartier Hudson Yards

A collaboration with Brazilian artist Beatriz Milhazes is utilizing unused stones to create an intricate installation.

Calling all art and high-end jewelry aficionados: A new installation titled “Artist Meets Artisan” has opened at Cartier Hudson Yards earlier this week. Exclusively for this location, Brazilian artist Beatriz Milhazes envisioned and designed an installation project composed of elements in suspension and decorative motifs.

Curated by the Fondation Cartier pour l’art Contemporain, this is the first time an Artist Meets Artisan piece will be exhibited in New York City. Made up of 15 strands, Aquarium is a lavishly ornamented arrangement inspired by the patterns and colors of Milhazes’ paintings and collages. The suspended ornament combines rosettes, floral and abstract ornaments, geometric shapes, rhythmic motifs and arabesques with novel materials to create an artwork that is nothing short of wildly wonderful.

The Artist Meets Artisan project was first created by Cartier ten years ago. This initiative invites contemporary artists to work in close collaboration with the Ateliers Cartier, utilizing unused stones to create new works of art. The Aquarium is on view through November 23 at Cartier Hudson Yards and is open Mondays through Saturdays from 10:00 AM—9:00 pPM. and Sundays from 11:00 AM—7:00 PM.
