Ashley Graham breaks down yet another cultural barrier with her latest triumph. The plus-sized model and activist signed on with Revlon for their “Live Boldly” campaign, a philosophy that Graham tells WWD, fits naturally into her life. “My affirmations are, ‘I am bold, I am brilliant, I am beautiful,’”, says Graham. The deal marks a major feat for the plus-sized community, as this makes Graham the first major curve model of her generation to sign a beauty contract.

“Historically, curvy girls are not given beauty contacts,” Graham reports to WWD. “It’s kind of groundbreaking, because in my generation of models, this hasn’t happened yet. This is one of those moments where I’m over the moon, I cried a little.”

Alongside Graham will stand models Adwoa Aboah, Imaan Hammam and Raquel Zimmerman, an intentional move in an effort to reimagine the brand's image as one that celebrates the power and fearlessness of females. The campaign features the cast in a non-studio setting, a move to express the beauty in unity.

“You’ve been slowly seeing [curvy] models pop up in makeup campaigns, but you haven’t heard of any actually signing contracts, and I think it’s because [companies] just want to get their feet wet. It’s like, ‘Hmmm, let’s try this bold curvy thing now and see if it’s real or see if it’s a trend,’” Graham tells WWD. “The average American woman is a size 14 and if you ask me, lipstick does not have a size.”

The collection will be on the market for the next 18 months and will pave the way for the company’s initiatives to center around female empowerment based ideologies.
