Today, audiences got a sneak peak at Assassination Nation, the buzzy Sundance hit coming to theaters on September 21st. The bloody feminist parable stars Odessa Young, Hari Nef, Abra and Suki Waterhouse as a cool-girl dissenters in fictional small town of Salem, Florida, where extreme internet trolling causes an outbreak of IRL hysteria. As the trailer outlines in bold, red-white-and-blue font, the film tackles all-too-relevant topics including bullying, abuse, toxic masculinity, transphobia, guns, and nationalism.

Despite its hyperbolic take on the classic teen horror flick genre, the film, directed by Sam Levinson, also reflects many social realities, as Young and Nef told V earlier this year. “The most I can ask of the film is that people see a mirror—not an alternate universe, not a dystopian portal, but a reflection, albeit amplified, of where we stand in the world today,” Young said. “Pretty much [every one] of my friends believes that she can change the world for the better—yet she’ll party every night like there’s literally no tomorrow. I think Assassination Nation captures my generation’s dissatisfaction with the present and its yearning for a more equitable future,” echoed Nef.

In addition to the film’s unflinching political timeliness, the film’s star-studded cast couldn’t be more on point, with supporting roles by Bill Skarsgård, Noah Galvin and Bella Thorne. In the words of Nef’s Instagram post earlier today, “You asked for it America.” Yes, yes we did.
