August 08 and Jhené Aiko Release Stirring Ballad, “Water Sign”

This song ushers in his latest two-part debut album, out later this summer.

Just in time for the emotionally-charged cancer season, August 08 and Jhené Aiko drop their electric single, “Water Sign.” As the first water sign of the year (reigning between June 21 to July 22), this release channels a period of sensitivity and intuition–best known for Cancer placements. Over a calming drum beat, both artists embrace their astrological placements singing, “My water sign / come just like the wind at night / Feisty like a fire sign / No, I don’t mind.”

“As a longtime fan of Jhené’s, I’m really humbled by her belief in me as an artist,” August 08 shared in a statement. “She set the bar as an independent R&B artist from LA who wrote her own rules and made no compromises in following her dreams. We really vibe on music and creativity and I’m excited to go on this journey with her.”

And as August 08 relates his love to the beauty of the night sky, he also translates this sentiment visually. The latest release also comes with an atmospheric music video that sees the two artists in fields of flowers and under the glow of a full moon, drawing on the lyrical themes of water and moonlight.

“August is an incredible writer, singer, and artist whose music speaks to me on so many levels,” Jhené shared in a statement.

“Water Sign” is the first new track on Towards the Moon, which is the second chapter of August’s two-part debut album, Seasick. He released the first part titled, Towards the Sun in late April, which arrived last Friday via ALLEL and Def Jam Recordings. ALLEL Sound is the new label venture from Jhené. The new EP features another collaboration, “What We Used To Be,” which finds August 08 teaming up with singer and songwriter Joji.
