Avant-Garde Is The Theme Of Yohji Yamamoto’s F/W 22 Collection

Look to the future with the Japanese powerhouse’s latest collection

Yohji Yamamoto has long been regarded as one of fashion’s avant-garde leaders, and this year only justifies those praises. His self-titled brand’s Pour Homme Fall/Winter 2022 collection emboldened the runway in Tokyo this week with it’s draping silhouettes, layered fabrics and solid black colorway. The show—an intimate performance set against light grey hues and an eerie soundtrack that added a cold and futuristic feel to the environment—featured experimental garments that played with lines and texture, with very little color straying from black. Each model had pale makeup, their hair swept messily with white accents and the contours of their faces outlined to symbolize a hollowness furthered by the post-modern feel of the setting. A cohesive work of creativity, Yohji Yamamoto once again proves his loyalty to designing eccentric, innovative garments whose aesthetic seamlessly blends with multi-medium performance art to create an unconventional, neoteric collection.
