With its litany of satin, sparkles and holographics, Christopher John Rogers's Spring/Summer 2020 presentation had the gauzy patina of a dream sequence. While the show culminated in a standing ovation from spellbound onlookers, including Diane Von Furstenburg and Kerby Jean-Raymond of Pyer Moss, there was just as much jubilation behind the curtain, as photographer Augusto Silva Alliegro captured backstage.
Here, we get a closer look at the gleeful handiwork behind the 25-year-old, Michelle-Obama-endorsed designer’s NYFW debut, from rhinestoned florals to iridescent tulle that takes us back to the future. And while the hot-and-heavy glam screamed '60s (per one of the collection's central inspirations, the 1965 film Pierrot le Fou) this runway debut suggests Rogers's artistic palette knows no bounds.
