Backstage at Christopher Kane Fall/Winter 2020

The London-based designer looked to “saucy knickers” for sartorial inspiration.

Fashion’s renowned provocateur, Christopher Kane sought inspiration from peculiar places for his Fall/Winter 2020 designs. Following the success of his simple-yet-seductive “More Joy” line, an array of t-shirts, towels, and pajamas featuring bold and raunchy verbiage, the fearless visionary continues to explore his sexually-inspired niche on the runway. Forming the foundation of his latest collection, the London-based designer revealed, “This season, it became all about triangles. I don’t know why. But it started with us looking at triangle bras, saucy underwear, and we went from there.”

Unafraid of experimentation, Kane’s risk-taking constructions and daring inspirations certainly paid off during London Fashion Week. Among the collection’s stand-out designs, a piercing red tulle gown with transparent sequins complemented a crystal mesh dress with triangular cut-outs and bow detailing. Exceptional tailoring met show-stopping fabrics, all the while peculiar accessories elevated each design to an entirely new level. Crystal-adorned cerulean chest pieces accentuated the female form, while the same unexpected combination found its way into belts and shoes alike.
