Will ballet core know no end?
Kim Jones certainly doesn’t want to cater to this notion, with good reason as there is much beauty to be explored within ballet. An overlooked component of ballet is itself are the ballerinos—aka the male dancers. Taking this idea, the men’s artistic director was able to infuse some personal sentiments within the collection’s theme, intertwining stories that reflect on Monsieur Dior’s relationship with dancer, Margot Fonteyn, while also looking back on Jones’ uncle, Colin Jones, who was a dancer and photographer who worked with Fonteyn’s dance partner, Rudolf Nureyev.
Taking classic feminine ballet wear with a combination of tailored menswear pieces, VMAN tapped photographer Schohaja to shoot some of the best looks before they hit the runway and uncover the details of one of Jones’ best collections for the house.
