Heritage is at the heart of Balmain’s Fall/Winter 2024 collection as creative director, Oliver Rousteing, looks to his hometown, Bordeaux for his ultimate inspiration. While planning to delve into Pierre Balmain’s affinity for the garden, Rousteing found himself infusing nostalgic elements of the wine-renowned French city. The result is a collection reminiscent of the French fashions he grew up with and elements of Monsieur Balmain’s love of nature’s blessings working perfectly in harmony.

Trench-inspired looks hit the runway first with the iconic wardrobe staple being reworked into dresses, pants, and sets. Rain hits Bordeaux frequently so Rousteing modeled these looks after the chic silhouettes he grew up constantly encountering.

With buttery leather looks that perfectly encapsulate the ever-elusive Parisian-chic style, the garments, which come in hues of black and sage green, are adorned with gold, snail-inspired embellishments that pay a cheeky tribute to the staple French dish, escargot. The embellishments quickly grow in size as a few looks later with the gold snail top that demands attention. After this embellishment takeover, smaller grape details consistently show up for the rest of the show.

Bold, fruit-inspired prints stemming from the bounty Bordeaux is known for, carry the show to the end. Beautiful depictions of these fruits are designed like they could be plucked from the finest of paintings. A full picnic is portrayed with looks reimagining the house’s iconic Vichy print so we’re left to have the perfect day in the Bordeaux park.
