Bandcamp Announces All Juneteenth Profits Will Go to NAACP

Support the NAACP Legal Defense Fund on June 19 by purchasing artist’s merchandise through Bandcamp.

In response to the police killings of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, Ahmaud Arbery, Tony McCade, and so many more, the music discovery and artist support website Bandcamp will be donating 100 per cent of it’s profits on Juneteenth to the NAACP Legal Defense Fund.

“We stand with those rightfully demanding justice, equality, and change, and people of color everywhere who live with racism every single day, including many of our fellow employees and artists and fans in the Bandcamp community,” they said in an Instagram post announcing their initiative.

“So this coming Juneteenth (June 19, from midnight to midnight PDT) and every Juneteenth hereafter, we will donate 100% of our share of sales to the NAACP Legal Defense Fund,” the post continued.

Juneteenth is a nationally celebrated day to commemorate the end of slavery, dating back to June 19, 1865 when the Union won the Civil War and African Americans who were enslaved became free. Continuing to advocate for people of color is the NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund, which “Through litigation, advocacy, and public education, seeks structural changes to expand democracy, eliminate disparities, and achieve racial justice in a society that fulfills the promise of equality for all Americans,” reads the LDF’s website.

As Bandcamp aims to join the fight against systemic racism and police violence, fans can support artists and musicians, especially those of color, on June 19 while all of what they spend will go directly to the LDF. With that support, LDF will continue to “… defend our civil and human rights… win landmark legal battles, protect voters across the nation, and advance the cause of racial justice, equality, and an inclusive society.”

If means are available, donations to the NAACP Legal Defense Fund can be made anytime here.
