Each year marks the turning point where a new crop of burgeoning talent are able to display their latest conceptions that allow purveyors to witness fashion conceived in an entirely different way that may have seemed unfathomable to create. This new era of expressionism is being ushered in with legendary photographers Inez & Vinoodh, as the duo seeks to bring forth creativity in its purest, most authentic form in conjunction with the mentorship program Mastered. In an exclusive interview, V sits down with the photographers and students to discuss the winners selected for their outstanding works of art.

What gravitated you to select Anna Rosa Krau’s winning photography series?

I think this is a beautifully styled series. I think it was great the way it was approached. It gives me an old world photography type of moment. It gives me a woman who's into health but a homely grass roots feeling. There's a solitude. It has a painterly quality. The styling is brilliant. It feels to me the whole team works well together, in the way it's presented. It has a sensitivity. I want to know who she is. Wonderful styling. Everyone must have been completely in sync.

Christina Campagna was nominated as the runner-up for her impressive work. What type of emotions did you feel looking at her photography?

I love the voyeuristic feelings. It's very smartly figured out. People take the brief in different angles. I love seeing how everyone took it into their own realm. The people we have selected have taken it to an extreme point. Christina has done this shoot by herself, but it evokes a very strong emotion. It's not only when you do it this way or that way. It's what you feel comfortable with it. There are no real rules if you work best alone this way.

How would you describe the work created by the second runner-up Aglaja Brix and Florian Maas?

This was really well thought out. The use of the still lifes is wonderful. It's a fantastic world that is being depicted. Everyone really made it work. Its dynamic, not everything is shot in the same way but it clearly comes from the same photographer. It's very touching.

What ideas attributed to Christos Karantzolas distinguished photographs?

The ghostly, double exposure. I love what’s happening. The styling all works together so well. Love this early photography feeling. This silent movie idea. This is very nice, strong sense of style, great find of location.

What advice can you offer to aspiring photographer looking to make their big break?

Find a way to interpret everyday life into something that becomes extraordinary. Be as open minded as possible to your team's suggestions. The beauty of making a fashion image is team work. It's the exchange between everyone that makes the image something no one has ever seen before.
