Dior Couture FW19 was a nearly all-black collection in an exploration between architecture and fashion in what the creative director, Maria Grazia Chiuri, called a “return to the fundamentals, to the foundations of haute couture,” according to the AP. Chiuri used architecture as a foundation, and the color black as a way to focus on the construction, silhouette and design of the Haute Couture FW19 collection. The most standout piece, inspired by Ancient Greek architecture, was the gold T-shirt in a fixed structure. Classic couture pieces, which added color towards the end of the show balanced against the black, constructed rigid designs which drew on architectural elements through layering. All in all, Dior Couture FW19 was strikingly elegant.
