Beyoncé Releases Single ‘Break my Soul’
A first look at the singer’s new solo album, Renaissance
This is not a false alarm— After much anticipation, Beyoncé has released a single from her newest album Renaissance. An early look into the artist’s first solo project since 2016, ‘Break My Soul’ is a motivational anthem and catchy club beat that marks the return of nineties house hip-hop.
“Bey is back and I’m sleeping real good at night”, announces the singer in the second verse of the song, addressing her much-noticed absence. Joined by guest singer Big Freedia, the two denounce toxic, all-consuming work in search of liberation. “Got motivation”, she sings. “I done found me a new foundation, and I’m takin’ my new salvation”.
“It feels surreal to be on the track with the Queen Beyonce once again”, writes Big Freedia in a recent Instagram post, celebrating the song’s release. The New Orleans artist was a contributor to Beyoncé’s “Formation” six years ago, and can now be heard vocalizing post-chorus singing “Release ya anger, release ya mind. Release ya job, release the time”. The line is a sample from the singer’s 2014 song “Explode”.
While little is known about the rest of Renaissance, fans can look forward to Beyoncé’s British Vogue cover, a July issue timed perfectly with the release upcoming album.
