Billie Eilish Asks All the Right Questions in “Bury a Friend”

Billie Eilish drops the music video for “Bury a Friend”, a look into her upcoming debut album.

The music video for Billie Eilish’s newest release “Bury a Friend” is out, unifying recent teasers with her signature eerie style. Leading up to the release, Eilish has been posting on her Instagram, leading followers to a frenzy.

The track’s teaser lyrics video featured lines from the single’s refrain, echoing questions like “What do you want from me? Why don’t you run from me? What are you wondering?” and of course the album’s title, “When we fall asleep, where do we go?”

“Bury a Friend” is co-written and produced by FINNEAS, Billie Eilish’s brother who is also the mastermind behind her most iconic tracks like “You Should See Me in a Crown”, “Copycat”, and “Ocean Eyes”.

The video contains repeated imagery, while shifting through transitions that are both fluid and sudden at the same time. To match, the song moves through a pulsating beat, starting off by making use of the Prismizer effect, which alters pitch and frequency to create a choral and cloning effect. The technique can be heard on Billie Eilish’s track “When I Was Older”, and many other artists are known to have utilized this technique as well, including Frank Ocean, Chance the Rapper, and Bon Iver.

Billie Eilish’s album ‘When we all fall asleep, where do we go’ will be released on March 29, and it’s available for pre-order now.
