Blondey McCoy Collaborates with Adidas in Redesigning the Superstar
The classic sneaker features a translucent new look
Drawing upon the punkish provocation of London’s SoHo neighborhood, adidas Skateboarding taps team rider and London-native Blondey McCoy for a redesign of the classic Superstar sneaker. A rising icon in both skateboarding and modeling realms, McCoy’s creation represents a sense of individualism and diverse creative energies that exists in the SoHo neighborhood.
As the only silhouette he’s is comfortable skating in, McCoy gives a futuristic update to the iconic Superstar design. Influenced by knitted socks and the quintessential Londoner’s PVC trench, this rendition of the Superstar sports a translucent upper with a contrasting black three stripes. A gold foil name stamp reads “BLONDEY”. “Having your name on a shoe is the highest honor you can be awarded,” says McCoy on the design, “I wanted to do something that had never been done to it before.”
Releasing alongside the model, McCoy designed a trio of soccer-inspired socks as a nod to his prefered skating look of high socks and shorts. Each pair is printed with a custom River Thames graphic and iconic adidas three stripes featuring names of circuses around the SoHo district. Each pair of Superstar 80s by Blondey come with an accompanying pair of socks inside a custom adidas shoe box.
The limited-edition product will be available on the adidas website and select retailers beginning on December 14th and will retail for $110.
