Blue Ivy Carter To Narrate “Hair Love”
“Hair Love” just landed the best celebrity voice actor.
Matthew A. Cherry has probably had one of the most successful Kickstarters of all time. The campaign allowed him to publish his children’s book “Hair Love.” The book, through a partnership with Sony Pictures Animation, turned into an Oscar award-winning short film. Now it is being translated into an audiobook narrated by none other than eight-year-old superstar Blue Ivy Carter (daughter of Beyoncé and Jay-Z, for the culturally illiterate).
Cherry announced the big move on Instagram writing, “Our Hair Love audiobook is live. Narrated by Blue Ivy Carter. Link in bio and available everywhere audiobooks are sold.” It was accompanied by a clip of Carter introducing the book.
The project has excited fans everywhere, partially due to the ongoing love for both the book and Carter, but also because of Carter’s own experience with hair-related ridicule. “Hair Love” stresses the importance of accepting and appreciating natural beauty, all through the discussion of natural hair, which is at the center of ongoing dialogues within the Black community.
In previous years, Carter herself was the subject of much public debate and cyber-bullying for how her parents chose to style her hair. At one point, a Change.org petition was even put together to get Beyoncé to brush her daughter’s curls (as if Beyoncé needs styling tips??). Since then, many have admonished the criticisms and pushed each other to give celebrity children a well deserved break from public scrutiny.
“Hair Love” is sure to continue its good work with its new audiobook format, and bring in new fans to discover its past iterations.
