Bohemian Bliss in AMI Spring/Summer 2023

In a love letter to Montmartre, Alexandre Mattiussi creates a costume for the bohemians that populate the streets.

Taking place at the Sacré Coeur Basilica, Alexandre Mattiussi dedicated this season’s collection to Paris, drawing inspiration from his favorite neighborhood.  Titled “Coeur Sacré” (or Heart Sacred), guests, and onlookers are introduced to a Mattiussi’s vision of Paris and the people that populate it.

Models walked along a path that stood as a Parisian street, while guests that included the likes of icons Naomi Campbell, Carla Bruni, Catherine Deneuve, and talents such as Tom Daley and Angus Cloud were onlookers who sat in bistro chairs, mimicking the atmosphere of Montmartre. Like the guests, the runway was star-studded, being opened by Audrey Tautou, the star of “Amelie” (which was also set in Montmartre), as well as Kara Delevigne, and Kristen McMenamy.

Trench coats, navy blazers, and neck handkerchiefs tied around loosely buttoned collars were an ode to the modern French bourgeois, while the preppy and sporty showed up through cut-off Daisy Dukes and logo’d “Coeur Sacré” sweaters paired Biker leather jackets. Bright greens, candy pinks, and red disrupted the flow of neutrals, while the new signature ‘Le Besace Bag’ was matched with soft leather thigh-high boots.

“Love and friendship” was Mattiussi’s ultimate theme throughout the homage to Paris’ historically artistic neighborhood. It was joyful, confident, and fun. What more could one ask for from the city of Paris?
