BTS, Doja Cat, J Balvin Set to Perform at the 2020 Video Music Awards

And more announcements are yet to come!

Not even a global pandemic can stop the VMA’s from rocking our world. MTV’s iconic Video Music Awards will be premiering at the end of this month, the first live award show to premiere since the coronavirus lockdown. We can expect a lot of changes, including new safety protocols, a limited audience, and even new categories.

To keep all of our award show spirits alive, MTV announced via Twitter three major performers that’ll take the stage at the event. BTS’s highly anticipated performance of their new single “Dynamite” will certainly be a highlight of the night, and Doja Cat and J Balvin are also included in the list of performers. But that won’t be all – MTV added that they “have more announcements to come,” including the currently unidentified host of the show. The suspense!

Leading this year’s nominations with nine nods each are Ariana Grande and Lady Gaga, with their “Rain on Me” collaboration landing seven nominations including Video and Song of the Year. Billie Eilish and The Weeknd both hold six nominations each, while Taylor Swift has five.

The two new categories added to commemorate these strange times are Best Music Video From Home and Best Quarantine Performance. Nominees for these categories include Lady Gaga’s rendition of Nat King Cole’s “Smile” on the One World: Together at Home television special and Ariana Grande and Justin Bieber’s “Stuck with U” music video.

The 2020 MTV Video Music Awards will premiere on August 30 and can be watched live on the MTV channel or streamed online at MTV.com.
