Our beloved Christopher Bailey showed his final collection with Burberry last month, leaving many to wonder who would follow in his footsteps. And in a major move for the brand, former Givenchy creative director Riccardo Tisci has been appointed as the British house's new Chief Creative Officer.

This follows the former chief executive officer of Givenchy, Marco Gobbetti, being appointed the new CEO of Burberry after Bailey stepped down last July. Tisci, who has spent the last twelve years at Givenchy, will officially assume the position on March 12 and present his first collection in September.

Tisci said of the new responsibility, “I have an enormous respect for Burberry’s British heritage and global appeal and I am excited about the potential of this exceptional brand."  The appointment of the Italian designer to the British fashion brand was a surprise to many. Fashion critic Vanessa Friedman tweeted of the announcement, “That’s one no one saw coming.” However, the designer has worked with his fair share of celebs, and can drop quite a few names of his own, including Madonna, Kanye West, Jay-Z, and Kim Kardashian. In a statement on the new venture for Burberry, Gobetti stated, “Riccardo’s creative vision will reinforce the ambitions we have for Burberry and position the brand firmly in luxury.”

Since announcing Tisci’s takeover of Burberry, the brand’s shares have risen by almost 4%. Looks like they’re off to a good start.
