Burberry Is Joining the NFT Game With Blankos Block Party Drop

The House is launching an exclusive, limited-edition Blanko skin this month. 

Burberry has announced an exciting partnership for gamers and fashion aficionados alike. The house is teaming up with Mythical Games to launch its first NFT (non-fungible token) collection in the multiplayer party game Blankos Block Party. The label is also the first luxury brand to be featured in the game.

Blankos Block Party features digital vinyl toys – the Blankos – that live on a blockchain, meaning players have proof of verified ownership and authenticity. Players can engage in a range of minigames with friends, collect and blend Blankos and earn fully ownable digital items in NFT form, which can also be traded on the Mythical Marketplace using real money. Neither the game nor Blankos NFTs require any crypto mining and use a Proof of Authority model, making them more environmentally friendly.

The limited-edition, limited-quantity Burberry Blanko is a shark named Sharky B, which features the label’s new TB Summer Monogram and was inspired by the house’s Animal Kingdom motif. Just like other Blankos, Sharky B can be purchased, upgraded, and sold within the Blankos Block Party marketplace. 

The partnership also includes an exclusive lineup of Burberry in-game NFT accessories, such as a jetpack, armbands, and pool shoes, which players can apply to any other Blanko they own. Sharky B can also be trained to master a variety of powers, including speed and agility, making it even more unique and rare.

This isn’t the first time Burberry explores the universe of gaming. The label’s first game, B Bounce, launched in October 2019, followed by the brand’s first multi-player fame, B Surf, in July 2020. 

“Pushing boundaries through experimentation sits at the heart of what we do at Burberry, and we are continually looking to connect with our communities in the spaces they love,” Burberry chief marketing officer Rod Manley said in a press statement. “Gaming is a unique space for us to test and learn and trial digital innovations that embody our values and celebrate creativity amongst our communities.”

Mythical Games vice president of marketing Nicole Yang highlighted how this has been a highly anticipated partnership for both brands. “We’re incredibly excited to bring the iconic TB monogram into the dynamic, unique world of Blankos,” she said in the statement, “giving players a new way to interact with a beloved and forward-thinking brand.”

This will be the first digital item launching as part of Burberry’s “B Series,” a series of limited-edition product drops available on the label’s channels influenced by the combination of moments of inspiration and discovery.

Sharky B, the Burberry Blanko, will be available for in-game purchase to all Blankos Block Party players worldwide on Wednesday, August 11.
