Burberry has represented the quintessential British style: trench coats and signature plaids with a modern twist. But for their Autumn/Winter 2022 Pre-Collection, the brand has stepped outside their creative boundaries to bring a collection that follows the themes of togetherness, adventure and discovery. First in the new creative series, “Friends and Family”, Chief Creative Officer Riccardo Tisci will be partnering with different creatives for each Pre-Collection. For this collection, Tisci has partnered with Brazilian model Lea T, who has modeled and walked for Burberry in their previous campaigns.

“Creativity means freedom and it is about empathy and communication with others. It is your voice, your identity, something inside you which you want to share with others,” said Tisci. “So, I was excited about the conversation that would happen when our creative worlds come together and see how their interpretation of my identity comes to life.”

Delving into the outdoors, Autumn/Winter 2022 is both youthful and refreshing, and plays on classic utility and exploration styles. Signature outerwear, such as the iconic Burberry trench, consists of oversized silhouettes with reconstructed details, all of which are practical and functional for everyday wear. Denim also makes an appearance, as well as monohair-blend fabrics and leather lapels, to mix femminity with a hint of grunge. Other features include geometric stitching, rib-knit hybrids and a cape-like coat to do a unique take on Burberry’s typical outerwear style. Menswear takes on this same exaggerated style, but with “a daring approach on outerwear.”

Besides outerwear, the collection continues its theme of adventure and travel in overshirts, jumpers and more. T-shirts featuring the new British Isles, mirrored globe and Monogram map prints are another example of this, which are equally seen and noticeable in the collection’s array of silk shirts and scarves. Autumn/Winter 2022 also showcases a variety of bodysuits, 70s-style corduroy trousers and sleeveless ribbed dresses that “underpin the collection,” and follow its neutral color scheme. And in Burberry-fashion, the house check print appears throughout the collection, but is reimagined as a chevron pattern with dark hues.

For shoes and accessories, Burberry dives into leather, velvet and other soft fabrics. Chunky soles and over-the-knee styles are featured in lace-up boots and studded loafers, while trench-belt and quilted details are seen in stiletto-heels and sneakers. Just like in the collection’s shirts, the bags include the same British Isles and Monogram motif on the round Louise bag. Burberry also does an interpretation of the Rhombi and Lola bags for Autumn/winter 2022, with refreshed patterns that still maintain the bags’ beloved shape and design. However, the Rachel bag is a new addition to the Burberry family, consisting of a classic crossbody detail and a logo graphic embossed front closure.
