Burberry’s Film Release Celebrates The Chinese New Year

Burberry’s Chinese New Year film is a breath of fresh air

After the year we’ve had, fresh starts are a welcome concept. In celebration of the upcoming Chinese New Year, Burberry’s new film “A New Awakening,” touches on themes of nature and rebirth through the lens of the five senses. Director Derek Tsang’s piece follows brand ambassadors Zhou Dongyu and Song Weilong as they explore their outer and inner worlds. Shot amongst tranquil forests, the film intends to convey a sense of hope to acknowledge the new year.

“This film really represents our connection as humans to the outside world and the journeys we take in life, always discovering new things in both our environment and also in ourselves,” says Riccardo Tisci, Burberry’s Chief Creative Officer. “I truly believe in renaissance: rebirth and new beginnings. For the new year, I think we all want to find love, balance, strength and hope – this is the real beauty in life.”

Burberry has launched a Chinese New Year 2021 capsule collection alongside the film to commemorate the holiday. Apropos to the film’s theme, Burberry renewed their Thomas Burberry Monogram motif — inspired by the Year of the Ox. Additionally, the plaid-heavy collection includes trench coats, sporty pieces, and the elegant Olympia bag in a new color. The collection is available in mainland China, Australia, Hong Kong, Macau, Malaysia, Singapore, Taiwan and Thailand.
