Capri Holdings, the aggregate of Michael Kors, Versace, and Jimmy Choo, joins the long list of fashion’s heritage houses and mega conglomerates in their fight against the Coronavirus pandemic. Announced this morning, Capri’s three brands will devote more than $3 million to COVID-19 relief, with a personal donation of $1 million on behalf of Capri Holding’s founder Michael Kors and chairman and chief executive officer John D. Idol.

New York-based Michael Kors brand will dedicate a $1 million endowment alongside Kors’ personal $1 million donation. NYU Langone Health and New York-Presbyterian Hospitals will be allotted $750,000 each to mitigate the financial burdens of frontline medical staff, mobilize COVID-19 clinical and diagnostic research, and support emergency patient care. Vogue and The CFDA’s a Common Thread, putting a face to the economic plight of the fashion industry, and God’s Love We Deliver, a longtime philanthropic partner of the Michael Kors brand, will each receive $250,000.

In addition to Versace’s ¥1 million donation on behalf of the Chinese Red Cross Foundation back in February, the brand will donate $500,00 toward Italian efforts as the virus continues to accelerate within the country. Milan’s San Raffaele Hospital will receive $400,000 for the relief of COVID-19 patients in intensive care units and $100,000 will be attributed to Camera Nazionale Della Moda Italiana’s “Italia, we are with you” initiative, one that supply’s critical medical equipment to Italy’s hospitals. London based Jimmy Choo has dedicated $500,000 to stymie global contagion of the virus. The NHS and the WHO’s COVID-19 Solidarity Response Fund will each receive $250,000 to alleviate the headwind facing health care workers, volunteers, patients, and those countries that have not yet seen the worst of it.

The forces of fashion are navigating an unsung territory, but without pause, they seem to be leading the way. Idol said it best: “This is clearly a time for people to come together in every way and on every level because we are all stronger in our united resolve.”
