David Koma is leaving his post as the creative director of Thierry Mugler after four years, and your mind may already be racing with notable fashion figures who could take on the job. But the person who will assume it may not necessarily be someone you know. American designer Casey Cadwallader has been named as Koma's replacement, and while you may not recognize his name at first glance, you definitely know the clothes he's been involved in.

Cadwallader first got his experience working behind the scenes at brands like Loewe and J. Mendel before taking on the position of design director for women's wear and accessories at Narciso Rodriguez. Most recently, he served as the design director for pre-season collections at Acne Studios. “The Clarins Group is very happy to welcome Casey Cadwallader to Mugler,” Sandrine Groslier, president of the Clarins Fragrance Group, Mugler Fashion and Fragrance, said in a statement. “His determination and unique sensitivity to Mugler’s artistic and experimental heritage will enable us to pursue the renewal of the house in the long term. We are confident that his personal vision and talent will position Mugler among the most sought-after avant-garde fashion brands of today.”

With the addition of Cadwallader, Mugler is about to be revamped, and likely a major departure from the dark and sexual aura that Mugler garnered under the eye of Koma and his predecessor Nicola Formichetti. Now that Cadwallader has solidified his place at the helm, it's possible we could be seeing a range of surrealist fashion trailing down the catwalk.
