As sneaker collaborations become increasingly popular, the partnerships are getting more and more unexpected, yet delightfully so. The latest collaboration is between ultra-comfy shoe brand ASICS and the romantically feminine Cecilie Bahnsen, a Copenhagen-based clothing line. Re-interpreting ASICS’ GT-2160 style, the special edition trainers are hand embellished with glittering florals and mimic the style of a Mary Jane shoe.
While Cecilie Bahnsen’s cloud-like collections of dresses, blouses, and skirts may seem at odds with the practicality and ease that a pair of ASICS straightforwardly offers, such a partnership is fully in-line with the clothing designer’s values. The brand celebrates the intersections between ready-to-wear and couture, softness and structure, and beauty and utility, which translates perfectly to the dynamic between the clothing’s femininity and ASICS’ technical expertise.
“Building upon an ongoing partnership with ASICS, this new collaboration continues to push the boundaries of Cecilie Bahnsen’s modern vision of femininity, interpreted through the lens of movement, motion, and mindfulness,” the designer said. “Finding harmony between intricate couture detailing and hyper-feminine embellishments with ASICS’ technical and functional universe is an exciting design challenge that we welcome with each collaboration.”
The collaboration’s campaign was shot in Tokyo by Japanese photographer Takashi Homma, featuring images inspired by film noir and sci-fi. The drop debuted at a gallery-style pop-up event at Dover Street Market in Paris, displaying Homma’s beautifully eerie photographs.
The black and white trainers are available at both ceciliebahnsen.com and MATCHES.
