Celebs to Perform at Democratic Convention

Billie Eilish and John Legend among ten stars to perform at the 2020 Democratic National Convention.

With less than one-hundred days until the presidential election, Democrats are gearing-up for the 2020 Democratic National Convention with some help from A-List celebrities. Artists such as John Legend, Billie Eilish and Billy Porter are scheduled to perform at this year’s mostly virtual convention.

Ten artists will perform American classics along with original music at different points throughout the four night event. Among them are Common, Leon Bridges, Jennifer Hudson, The Chicks, Maggie Rogers, Stephen Stills and Prince Royce.

“In just three days, we will kick off a Democratic Convention that will look and feel very different than past conventions,” Stephanie Cutter, DNC program executive, said in a statement. “These artists are committed to engaging with, registering and mobilizing voters to get us over the finish line in November.”

This will not be the first time Legend and Hudson perform at a Democratic Convention. Both artists performed on the DNC stage when Barack Obama was first nominated back in 2008. It is also not the first time Legend and Porter aid the Biden campaign’s fundraising efforts. While this will be the first time Eilish is old enough to vote, the singer has criticised Donald Trump in the past and currently works with the organization HeadCount to get people to vote.

A number of stars, not performing at this year’s convention, have expressed support for Biden’s campaign — especially after his decision in selecting Kamala Harris as his running mate. Celebrity support for the Biden campaign includes Kerry Washington, Mindy Kaling, Chrissy Teigen, Taylor Swift and Reese Witherspoon.

The scaled back convention is due to fears over the coronavirus pandemic. Earlier in August, the Biden campaign and other key speakers announced they would not be traveling to the host city of Milwaukee for this year’s convention.

The convention along with celebrity performances will take place August 17th to August 20th.
