In a moment of reflection for Hedi Slimane, the creative director of CELINE wanted to pay tribute to his cherished friend and mentor, Richard Avedon, the renowned photographer who passed away in 2004.

Looking back to an era where Avedon, arguably, was at his best with his work across the realms of fashion and beyond, Slimane found himself tapping into the Swinging Sixties—an era where the French fashion house undeniably found its footing. Capturing this golden age in a new light, the brand’s newly released show video for the winter 2024 collection titled “LA COLLECTION DE L’ARC DE TRIOMPHE” is filled with all the nods and references you can imagine for a time period that influenced much of fashion.

Captured at carefully selected Art Deco locations in Paris where Slimane chose for the show film to be shot, “LA COLLECTION DE L’ARC DE TRIOMPHE” pays a visit to La Salle Pleyel, recognized as a historical monument for being one of the best French music halls of the twentieth century, as well as visiting Le Musée Bourdelle’s Salle Des Plâtres, which was unveiled in 1961 by architect Henri Gautruche to mark the 100th anniversary of Antoine Bourdelle’s birth and houses his monumental plaster casts—and can’t forget to mention La Maison De La Chimie, which is where Hedi unveiled his first show for the house of Yves Saint Laurent back in 1997.

While introducing a winter lineup of embroidered mini-shift dresses, go-go-esque boots, and hats that feature a supersized Triomphe logo, “LA COLLECTION DE L’ARC DE TRIOMPHE” welcomes the arrival of Celine Beauté, the first-ever cosmetics line in the house’s history.

Initially created by Slimane in 2023, serving as an expansion of the house’s coveted Haute Parfumerie collection which launched in 2019, the models featured in the show wear “La Peau Nue” Rose Naturel lipstick, one of the 15 shades of the “Le Rouge Celine” lipstick collection that will be available in 2025, with the first satin shade of the line dropping this autumn titled “Rouge Triomphe.”
