Chanel Acquires Charvet, the Oldest French Shirtmaker

The announcement marks a historical moment for both fashion houses

Yesterday, Chanel announced that it had acquired Charvet, marking a historic moment in French fashion. Charvet, the oldest French shirtmaker, was founded in 1838 and will maintain independence while gaining support from Chanel. The two houses have a shared system of values and believe that the union will enrich them both. Certainly for Francophilic fashionistas, the merger makes the classic Charvet shirt all the more desirable.

“We share the same approach to savoir-faire: with exacting standards, respect, and the conviction that such skills only truly flourish when rooted in longevity. At Chanel, we have always considered it our responsibility to support, preserve, and perpetuate these rare artisanal skills, which embody both exceptional craftsmanship and an essential part of our cultural heritage,” said Bruno Pavlovsky, President of Fashion Activities at Chanel and Chanel SAS.
