To celebrate the arrival of CHANEL’S Paris – 31 rue Cambon 2019/20 Métiers d’Art collection in boutiques, filmmaker Sofia Coppola has creates an exclusive video that looks back over a century of creation at the heart of the fashion house’s historic address.

Back in 1918, Gabrielle Chanel acquired a building at the iconic 31 rue Cambon address to establish her couture house. The building ended up being a studio and atelier space combined with an apartment where she would take time out to read or receive her friends. To this day, the boutique, Haute couture salons, apartment, studio and ateliers occupy this emblematic location from the group floor up, all interlinked by the Art Deco mirrored staircase where the couturière has allegedly liked to watch her shows without being seen. From 1983 and for more than 30 years, it was within these walls — forever marked by the presence of Gabrielle Chanel — that the creations of Karl Lagerfeld came to life.

For her first Métiers d’Art collection, Virginie Viard naturally wanted to pay tribute to 31 rue Cambon: reconstructed for the duration of the show in collaboration with Sofia Coppola in December 2019, this unique place was also the backdrop for the collection campaign. And in her turn, Sofia Coppola pays a vibrant tribute to this legendary address and eternal source of inspiration in a video that takes shape as a collage of archived images from 31 rue Cambon.

The Paris – 31 rue Cambon 2019/20 Métiers d’Art collection is now available in CHANEL boutiques worldwide. Check out the newly released video below:
