In a visual ode to the spirit of Manchester, CHANEL unveiled its highly anticipated 2023/24 Métiers d’art show, introducing a spellbinding collection that seemingly echoed the spirit of the mod era.

Guided by the creative finesse of CHANEL ambassador and Priscilla director Sofia Coppola with an exclusive montage video to help celebrate the arrival of the collection, the runway comes alive with the first glimpses of Virginie Viard’s creations, beautifully staged against the urban backdrop of the city.

Central to this collection is the seamless blend of both modern and timeless ideas of style. Noteworthy pieces are the black T-shirt dress showcasing an embroidered crest and a velvet jersey sweater featuring a pleated plastron adorned with tweed ribbons. The jackets, woven in soft pastel-colored Lesage tweed, include accents of denim ribbons and bouclette threads in various shades of pink. The outfits are sometimes paired with a matching tweed cap, completing the chic look.

With the knitted ensembles, the CHANEL suits in vibrant pops of red, mustard yellow, and lilac play a vital role in the brand’s collection. Each silhouette tells a story, weaving together a narrative that reflects both the contemporary and the classic.

Viard steers away from conventional aesthetics, choosing instead to focus on the poetry of emotions with a subtle nod to the sixties. The runway becomes a canvas for the celebration of CHANEL’s house codes, where chains, contrasting inner fabrics, and topstitched panels coexist, allowing for a range of movement.

Inspired by Great Britain, the lineup spotlights the use of wraparound skirts, miniskirts, Bermuda shorts, shirts, and coat dresses crafted from tweed, shetland, and cashmere. Fitted cuts and slightly low-waisted skirts showcase expert tailoring, creating a visually cohesive look. Playful artistic touches include pleats, feathers, and intricate embroidery. Hats and jeweled buttons by the Métiers d’art resident at le19M add opulence, while teapots, vinyl records, flowers, and black Mary-Jane shoes bring joy and nostalgia to the runway.

From jeans and leather to knitwear, babydoll nighties, and strapless dresses, diverse influences converge. The collection ventures into realms encapsulating the essence of football, Manchester’s music scene, and the charm of the English countryside.
