Just last week, the annual CHANEL 2024/25 Métiers d’art show unfolded in Hangzhou, China where a breathtaking display celebrated the coexistence and intersection of cultures.

As the sun dipped below the horizon, the runway lit up winding its way through the landmark—where ancient temples and pagodas met the modern energy and of a contemporary and fast-paced city. The lake itself has been a well-loved attraction for thousands of years and inspired countless Chinese poets, writers, and artists. This show was no exception.

Although Gabrielle “Coco” Chanel never had the chance to visit West Lake, the serenity of the landscape was ever present on the hand-painted Coromandel lacquer screens found in her Paris apartment. In homage, the house traveled back to one of the sources of Madame Coco’s inspiration and honored this historical connection between French fashion and Chinese artistry.

CHANEL’s call back to this uses the line as a conduit to celebrate both its legacy and cross-cultural inspirations. It was an occasion where tradition, opulence, and artistry converged in a breathtaking visual harmony, reaffirming once again that CHANEL is an eternal virtuoso in fusing the past with the present.

Long-shouldered coats for day and night anchored the collection, which featured the quintessential CHANEL Lesage tweed jackets, quilted bags, and luxurious outerwear. Floral patterns and expertly embroidered decals were complemented by accessories from Maison Michel, with golden chains, cuffs, and medallions by Goossens, all harmonizing with the collection’s flowy, layered silhouettes and varied fabric textures.

Among the guest list of show ambassadors Lupita Nyong’o and Tilda Swinton, and the band Pheonix who performed at the after-party.
