Chloe x Halle Drop Music Video for “Ungodly Hour” Title Track

Their newest video features a futuristic update to their sharp choreography and stunning wardrobes

After quietly ascending to the top of several critic’s lists in 2020 with their second studio album, Ungodly Hour, Chloe x Halle seem poised to continue being the center of the conversation in 2021. The duo has just dropped the music video for the album’s title track and after the expectations, they’ve set with their previous videos and quarantine performances, they do not disappoint.

The R&B duo, consisting of sisters Chloe Bailey and Halle Bailey, premiered the video on last night’s episode of “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.” The song itself is a smooth R&B bop akin to the several that populate the parent album, displaying self-assuredness and maturity in the lyrics and the vocals. The song talks of advising someone to only start coming by to love them “at the ungodly hour” when they’re capable of loving themselves first.

The music video, on initial watch, seems like an updated version of their “Do It” video, featuring the sisters in varied get-ups, choreographed routines with male dancers, and singing to the camera. But if “Do It” was at a 10, the Alfred Marroquín directed “Ungodly Hour” ups those same points up to a 100. Everything gets a more futuristic feel as they dance in a room filled with wires, shallow pools of water, smoky rooms, and lit floors. Glittery gowns, elaborate and gigantic (not to mention potentially uncomfortable) headpieces, vinyl suits, and floor-length ponytails are added to the mix, making this a deceptively simple video with sky-high production value.

The Grammy-nominated siblings released a Chrome version of their album which features two new tracks called “80/20” and “Hazy” (which we’ve got covered in our weekly round-up). The reissue also will be released on vinyl, a first for the duo.
