This fall’s Fashion Week has seen numerous runways adapt to pandemic protocols, most of them debuting digital runways and online lookbooks. For Christian Siriano, COVID-19 safety regulations took his Collection 37 Runway Show out of New York—and into the backyard of his Connecticut home.
The innovative designer held his runway show on September 17, inviting select guests to a socially-distanced viewing of the collection. CDC protocol was reportedly followed to a tee, and guests’ seats were adorned with pieces from Christian’s collection with Lowe’s Home Improvement.
Gowns from his collection were paired with matching masks, and longtime friend Sarah Jessica Parker provided the shoes for the collection from her SJP by Sarah Jessica Parker line.
“This year has been quite a ride and figuring out what I wanted to say this season was a hard one,” said Siriano in a press release. “For Collection 37, I let my imagination run free and got inspired by everything that was right in front of me while quarantining at home. I took ideas from films I loved as a child, like Troop Beverly Hills, Don’t Tell Mom The Babysitter’s Dead, Clueless, and even The Wizard of Oz. Fabrics, shapes, and silhouettes from each film are referenced in this collection but in a new modern way for our customer.”
He described the collection has “romantic with touches of evening,” and the looks he debuted were surely pandemic-chic: a bright red gingham bra top with a flowing, bell-shaped skirt and matching hat, a lacy black corset with loose-fitting trousers, and the star of the show, a crimson ball gown worn by Coco Rocha.
“Even at home, things can inspire us, and I hope this collection shows that fashion remains powerful despite the circumstances,” said the designer.
