City Rigor Meets Relaxed Resort Allure: Urban Resort SS23 by Michael Kors

Urbanity and nature intersect in a balanced and contemporary setting.

On September 15, the house of the intangible Michael Kors electrified the runway with its archetypal Spring Summer ‘23 debut that juxtaposed the sleekness of the city with lush greenery. Incited by a resort getaway the Kors collection celebrated the infusion of urbanity and nature. Amplified by Micheals belief that “a city street is the ultimate runway,” the setting included a specially curated floor-to-ceiling window area, allowing the public to oogle the runway show from streets of 10th Avenue.

Cast along a palm-lined runway, and extending well onto 10th Ave, models Bella Hadid, Mica Argañaraz, Adut Akech, Rianne Van Rompaey, Carmen Kass, Alton Mason, Mariacarla Boscono, Paloma Elsesse, and encapsulate Kor’s polymath’s pieces while strutting to the acoustic covers of songs “Killing Me Softly” and “Bolero.”

Kors shared, “Urban resort to me is the best of both worlds, it’s the luxury and sleek elegance of city life with the laid-back glamor you find in the best resorts. This collection uses a lot of elements that you normally find on holiday—lots of white, lots of bareness, soft caftans, bare strippy sandals—mixed with the crisp tailoring and polish you need in an urban environment.”

Hidden amidst a hub of notable and promising creative fashion connoisseurs at FIT, seated front row was Anne Hathaway, Serena Williams, Vanessa Hudgens, Alexandra Daddario, Keke Palmer, Sabrina Carpenter, Lori Harvey, and La La Anthony.

Balancing city stiffness with serene resort appeal, the runway included everything from sarongs and caftans to sharply tailored suits and Chesterfield coats. A palette of crisp white, graphic black, tropical lime and bold poppy is balanced by soft tones of pearl, silver, dune and gold. Movement and light are accentuated by romantic fringe, high-shine sequins and liquid fabrics, juxtaposed with architectural silhouettes and sculptural jewelry. Resulting in a celebratory wardrobe of the body and works within every destination around the world.
