Coachella Announces a Youtube Originals Documentary for 20th Anniversary
We’re getting a full look at 20 years of the desert music festival.
Among the dense and growing population of music festivals, Coachella certainly leads the pack. Over the last 20 years since its birth in Indio, California, the extensive lineup of music’s finest performers has only continued to become more impressive. It’s every it-girl’s favorite weekend, every music lover’s dream, and every influencer’s required weekend of photo-ops and outlandish outfits. It’s a cultivated culture that’s grown into something of its own, and now, YouTube Originals is presenting a visual documentation of the festival’s immense growth and impact on pop culture over the last two decades.
Titled Coachella: 20 Years in the Desert, the documentary-style film is set to debut on March 31 of this year. Amidst the intensity of Coachella’s massive crowds and over-the-top food culture, performances by Radiohead, Björk, Daft Punk, Kanye West, LCD Soundsystem, Rage Against the Machine, and more round out the festival’s unequivocal platform for the American music scene. Produced and directed by Chris Perkel, the documentary provides a timeline perspective of one of music’s most-talked-about events.
