Converse and A-COLD-WALL* Continue Innovative Partnership With New “Sponge Crater” Silhouette

Samuel Ross explores futuristic designs and next-gen comfort with a new shoe.

Converse and A-COLD-WALL* are back for a new collaboration. After releasing the Nike “Space Hippie” inspired Chuck, Converse brings more intergalactic inspiration with the Sponge Crater. The Sponge Crater embodies a “less is more” silhouette due to its full-body Crater foam silhouette. The limited-edition shoe is an exploration into using Crater foam as a comfort material, as well as a way to reduce complexity. Samuel Ross, Founder of A-COLD-WALL*, brings his atypical contemporary aesthetic to Converse for his rendition of the new shoe.

Ross’ vision takes inspiration from the subculture of London and the disparities felt throughout it. The experience of Britain’s working class weaves its way into the DNA of A-COLD-WALL*. The brand’s avant-garde fashion and installations capture the competition between classes and the environment in the landscape. All of these motifs are ingrained into every piece A-COLD-WALL* creates.

The Sponge Crater delivers a bold new silhouette. Through a thoughtful production process, Ross and Converse deliver a mule cut for the Sponge Crater. The shoe features the first full-body structure made of Crater foam. The body aims to ensure comfort, while also providing an abstract design. The CX foam underfoot and egg-crate style traction pod outsole take comfort to the next level. Made from flat-knit, the upper promotes breathability, while the spandex collar, pull tabs and exaggerated heel kick allow an easy entry.

Kam-BU, a London-based artist and Converse All-Star, poses alongside model Eva Apio for the launch campaign. The Converse x A-COLD-WALL* Sponge Crater will be available on both Converse and A-COLD-WALL*’s websites. The new shoe drops online and at select retailers on June 23.
