Following up on all of the drama, debauchery, and wild glamor of the summer box office smash “Crazy Rich Asians”, Hollywood has officially put its stamp of approval on the ground-breaking franchise by announcing that a sequel film is in the works. With director Jon M. Chu signing on to direct a follow up film, the fiery demand for a return of the rom-com series burns strong.

Originally a novel written by Singaporean author Kevin Kwan, “Crazy Rich Asians” has reached international fame with the recent release of its film adaptation. Featuring the largest number of Asian actors in a Hollywood film since “The Joy Luck Club” in 1993, “Crazy Rich Asians” showcases the most Asian representation when it comes to the casting of lead roles in over 25 years. The film, which explores the dramatized family dynamics of an incredibly wealthy Asian family has brought underrepresented aspects of Asian culture into the spotlight, captivating millions and millions of fans globally.

The sequel film is reportedly based off Kevin Kwan’s book, “China Rich Girlfriend”, which is the second book in Kwan’s trilogy centered upon the family. With nearly all of the characters from the first book making a reappearance in the second, it’s safe to say that fan favorites are sure to hit the silver screen again in reprisal of their roles in the first film. As fans of the first film, we can’t wait to see how the drama unfolds in the follow up. But If you can’t wait to see how the storyline continues, be sure to pick up a copy of “China Rich Girlfriend” for some sneaky spoilers.
