David Dobrik Steps Down From Dispo App Amid Vlog Squad Rape Allegations
Companies such as DoorDash, Dollar Shave Club, and Hello Fresh have also terminated their partnerships with Dobrik.
Youtuber David Dobrik has stepped down from his photo-sharing app Dispo on Sunday, following a flurry of controversy after a member of his Youtube content group was accused of of sexual assault, reports The Information.
“David has chosen to step down from the board and leave the company to not distract from the company’s growth,” said a statement from the company. “Dispo’s team, product, and most importantly- our community- stand for building a diverse, inclusive, and empowering world.”
Dobrik’s decision to part ways with Dispo’s board comes after a report from Business Insider that detailed allegations about a member of his Youtube group, dubbed the Vlog Squad. The alleged victim claimed that the member, Dom Zeglaitis, raped her while filming content for a 2018 video while she was too drunk to consent. Given that she was 20 years old at the time, Dobrik supplied her with alcohol.
After the incident, Dobrik posted a video titled SHE SHOULD NOT HAVE PLAYED WITH FIRE!! with footage of Dobrik and co. joking about having sex with the alleged victim and other young women that night. One of the Vlog Squad members, Dom Zeglaitis, recalls having sex with one of the women. “We’re all going to jail,” Dobrik said at the end of the video, which was removed upon the alleged victim’s request after racking up 5 million views.
Following recent accusations, Dobrik posted a Youtube video titled Let’s talk on March 16 where he states consent is important to him. “There’s also been moments where I’ve looked back on videos, and I realize that these don’t represent me anymore, and they’re hurtful to other people, and I don’t want them up because I’ve grown as a content creator and as a person,” he said.
Companies such as DoorDash, Dollar Shave Club, and Hello Fresh have terminated their partnerships with Dobrik and his affiliates since the allegations have come to light.
