American luxury jewelry brand David Yurman is set to redefine the landscape of men’s accessories with the launch of its first-ever men’s high jewelry collection. This move not only marks a pivotal moment for the iconic brand but also signals a shift in an industry that has traditionally focused on women’s jewelry. To help signal the start of a new chapter, David Yurman has tapped Michael B. Jordan as its newest global ambassador, serving as the face of the new collection–titled The Vault–and 2024 campaign.
Directed and photographed by rising American photographer Tyler Mitchell and styled by Jason Bolden, the renowned actor, director, and star of the Creed film series shines in an array of images and a short film that spotlights the house’s architectural design ethos and flair for creativity. “Curiosity and innovation have stood at the core of David Yurman from the very beginning, and there’s no better time to forge a new path in men’s jewelry than now,” says President and Chief Creative Officer Evan Yurman in a statement. “Michael is a multi-talented artist who exhibits a mastery and elegance in every project that he takes on–there’s no one better suited to communicate the magnitude of this collection than him.”
With the growing popularity and changing trends in men’s accessories, the brand is catering to a worldwide cultural shift witnessed over the past few years: the idea of men expressing their style through high jewelry pieces. Breaking away from convention, David Yurman introduces the 30-piece collection while redefining the brand’s offerings.
The Vault is comprised of silver and gold opulent necklaces, bracelets, rings, and cuff links. The stones, carefully hand-selected for their rarity and exceptional quality, boast custom-cut diamond baguettes, a distinctive feature in many pieces. The brand’s ability to create bold stone treatments with a low profile sets these pieces apart, showcasing a harmonious blend of tradition and contemporary design.
Below, VMAN caught up with the Creed star to discuss how he felt when asked to be the face of the new collection and the merging of the high jewelry world with men’s fashion.
VMAN: How did it feel when asked by David Yurman to be the face of the house’s new men’s high jewelry collection The Vault and campaign? How did that campaign shoot go for you?
Michael B. Jordan: I’ve been a fan of David Yurman for a long time and was excited when the team approached me to collaborate with them on the launch of The Vault. The shoot was very collaborative. Evan Yurman shared his designs with me and my creative team early on, allowing us to provide feedback and contribute to the overall vision. My stylist Jason Bolden played a huge role in helping elevate the fashion element, while the incredible photographer Tyler Mitchell helped bring it all to life. We all brought something different to the table creative-wise to make it happen.
VMAN: We’ve seen you wear a range of brooches, necklaces, rings, and beyond throughout your career from red carpet to day-to-day. What is it about the world of high jewelry that excites you most?
MBJ: My first introduction to jewelry was when I got my ears pierced in middle school and ever since then, I’ve been experimenting with different kinds of pieces in my everyday style. As I’ve gotten older, I’ve become more intentional and refined in my tastes, and see jewelry as an opportunity to express myself.
VMAN: What is your take on the men’s fashion scene as a whole embracing the notion of men wearing more high jewelry pieces in their looks?
MBJ: I personally am excited about it. For the Creed III press run, my stylist Jason and I were able to play around with some incredible high-end pieces like brooches and necklaces. They really helped elevate my looks, so I think there’s a lot of opportunity in men’s jewelry.
VMAN: Out of the collection, which happens to be your favorite piece?
MBJ: I’m loving the Full Pave Oval Link Necklace and Bracelet in White Diamond– since the campaign shoot, I’ve looked for every opportunity to wear these. You can tell they are high quality by the weight and shine, and effortless movement on your skin.
