For their newest capsule collection, Denim Tears harnesses the mythological and the inconclusive. Inspired by the themes from The Metropolitan Museum of Art’s upcoming show, Flight into Egypt: Black Artists and Ancient Egypt, 1876-Now, the line reimagines the lore behind The Great Sphinx’s missing nose in a series of wardrobe staples

The capsule, fittingly titled “Nobody Nose,” is conceptualized and conceived by Tremaine Emory, the founder of Denim Tears and former creative director of Supreme. The line, comprised of a sweatshirt, t-shirt, tote and hat, reimagines the mythology behind the Sphinx’s missing nose and features an original image crafted and guided by Emory’s inquiry: “How does an artifact from Egypt, or anywhere from the ancient world, end up miles away in a museum in a major metropolitan city?”

In short, nobody “nose.” The theories stretch far and wide, the most famous being Napoleon Bonaparte’s brazen target practice that resulted in the nose being cleanly blown off (the myth, long debunked, is included in Ridley Scott’s biopic Napoleon). Emory’s revival of the legend depicts the nose being carted off in a sort of comical kidnapping. Each article features The Met’s emblematic red logo alongside the exhibition title and the Denim Tears trademark imprint.

Pieces from the Denim Tears x Levi’s Season Three Fall 2023 Collection, an homage to the Black biker community, will also be on display in Flight to Egypt, featuring items such as the Tracy’s King Tut Black Leather Vest and Tracy’s King Tut Leather Belt. Opening November 17th, the museum exhibit will examine Black artists’ creative engagement with ancient Egypt. Stretching nearly 150 years, from the 19th century to the Harlem Renaissance to the Black Arts Movement of the 60s and 70s, the show presents a melange of multimedia artworks including sculpture, music, visual art, literature, scholarship, religion and politics. And for the first time in The Met’s history, a series of live performances centered on dance and music will take place beginning November 22nd.

The capsule is currently available on denimtears.com, in-store at Africa Diaspora Goods on 176 Spring St, and The Met Fifth Avenue.
