Diesel Unveils Spring/Summer 2022 Collection With Short Film
Presented through a short film, this collection represents a milestone for Diesel. It is the first collection by Creative Director Glenn Martens.
Diesel’s new Spring/Summer 2022 collection was released on June 21 in Milan, Italy. The collection was presented in a short film live-streamed from Milan in lieu of a traditional fashion show. The film was directed by Frank Lebon with the soundtrack by British musician Leon Vynehall.
The film represents a milestone for the brand. This is the first full collection by creative director Glenn Martens; the film shows the evolved world of Diesel through Martens’ creative perspective in four sections. Blurring the lines between reality and a dream, the film follows the main character (model Ella Snyder) through various environments while presenting the collection in a way that captures Diesel’s history and Martens’ aesthetic.
The storyline highlights Martens’ focuses on denim, womenswear, menswear and experimentalism in the past as they become a new vision. This collection is a modern reimagining of Diesel’s bold and ironic history with an all-gender approach to the collection, honoring the brands heritage and introducing the Diesel Library.
Denim is Diesel’s core fabric. The Spring/Summer 2022 collection introduces Diesel Library a sustainable made-to-stay collection component that will act as a permanent baseline for each seasonal collection. Diesel Library provides clothing made to last, and be worn longer, creating items with a permanent shelf-life. Diesel Library plays a large part in Martens’ evolution of Diesel, proving no fabric is more culturally relevant than denim.
The collection reflects a bold hybridizing of Diesel’s history and Martens’ conceptual approach to fashion design. This collection is about diversifying and evolving as we enter a new world and creating practical yet unique products. Diesel’s evolution balances popular appeal, clever design and an uncompromising vision to create designs for the present and future.
A selection of key looks will be available in avant-première starting from September 2021 in key selected stores and on diesel.com.
