Maria Grazia Chiuri’s Dior Fall-Winter 2025 Ready-to-Wear collection is a bold exploration of fashion as a transformative force. As the creative director of Dior’s women’s lines, Chiuri seeks to reframe the essence of fashion, using it as a vessel for change and self-expression. This season, she revisits the history and memories that define the house while blending them with the broader history of fashion.

One way she does this is through the quintessential white shirt, a staple in the fashion world, which takes on new significance. For Chiuri, it is the foundational element of an outfit that transcends traditional gender boundaries, creating a timeless piece that speaks to the evolution of modern fashion—making what may seem like a boring basic into a symbol of liberation.

Chiuri highlights the theme of change in a way that is both functional and fashionable, with the introduction of removable collars. The collars, inspired by Virginia Woolf’s novel Orlando, draw on Woolf’s character, who blurs the lines of gender and time, creating a garment that changes with the wearer.

Chiuri’s show also pays homage to visual artist Robert Wilson, whose staging techniques inspired the fluid movements of the models. Light and color play pivotal roles in setting the tone, with the colors shifting from dark to light, as the show unfolds. The runway itself becomes a stage, where the models move through a world of craters and molten rocks, until the striking emergence of an iceberg, meant to symbolize the divide between the natural world and human society.

The return of iconic references such as the J’adore Dior t-shirt, carries nostalgia and is reintroduced as part of a broader exploration of the relationships between past and present. Cut-out and appliqué embroidery make a striking return, offset by technical jackets and other modern elements. Velvet ribbons, adorned with baroque pearls, add texture and depth to skirts and dresses.

Through this, Chiuri celebrates a vision of femininity that is at once grounded in history and pushing the boundaries of what fashion can achieve.
